A very important read
What do you still do for your teen that they can do for themselves?
I wash, but only if clothes are in the wash basket.
I do prepare school sandwiches but other components are packed and selected by them.
I don’t deliver forgotten items.
I have never ever done their homework or assignments and like the author, besides a general chat about their work, I am always the last to know what work they have (other parents are often letting me know 🙂 )
I don’t fill in forms – as a result, the order form for year 12 books is late (as I discovered in conversation with other parents a few evenings ago). That’s ok, my son is well aware that he will pay the late fee. No fuss, no arguments, a bit of a laugh and we moved on.
Having said that, the biggest thing I think to remember as a parent is that there may well be times, when doing some things for your teens that they can do themselves is part of ‘being supportive’. We all need a little help from time to time 🙂
