Shared by one of our presenters James Gibbs, this article acknowledges the impact programs such as ours have but also encourages parents and families to have discussions with their boys (and girls) about healthy relationships, respect and identity. After discussing the “shaming” of a group of young men at a recent “expert in teen culture” talk to students, at a school her son attends, a parent contacted me this week to ask how we see boys? What are our values? How do we educate? After assuring her that there would be no shaming, talking down to or blaming, she is excited for her so to participate in our program. We too are excited to have an opportunity to work with them in a more respectful way!
Opinion: When do some boys decide they have a right to objectify and ridicule, belittle and degrade young women?
